Attics are often a place of discovery for interesting artifacts, but it’s truly exciting when the items found are valuable relics of famous Hollywood films. Once again, Boston-based RR Auction is proving that it is the go-to place for such finds.
The brain behind “The Godfather” Mario Puzo had a 45-box archive from his estate successfully auctioned for $625,000 at RR Auction earlier this year. But that wasn’t the end of it. Currently, two original film reels of “The Godfather” are up for auction at RR Auction’s website. They were stumbled upon in the attic of a house once owned by Puzo by the current owner.
Page Six reports that the footage on the reels is from the first 40 minutes of the 1972 film adapted from Puzo’s book. After the filming was finished, the reels were given to the scribe.
“The Godfather,” directed by Francis Ford Coppola, stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino in the most popular American crime film of the century. The movie the Oscars for Best Picture in 1972, as well as Best Actor to Brando and Best Adapted Screenplay to Puzo and Coppola.
A number of other impressive items from the classic film are available for bids until June 23rd in the themed auction “Pop Culture” at RR Auction’s website. These items include:
