The Rarest and Most Remarkable at RR Auction

Over the decades, Boston-based RR Auction has successfully sold thousands of rare authentic artifacts and documents belonging to famous and historic figures at auction. The value of these items has ranged significantly, from autographs on albums worth several hundred dollars to startlingly exceptional finds with bids of over a million from enthusiasts and collectors. The RR in RR Auction stands for Rare and Remarkable. Of these thousands of artifacts presented at the auction house, which were the rarest and most remarkable? What is the history of the most valuable items?

A visual showcase of these amazing and rare artifacts is shown in this RR Auction YouTube video, which also gives a preview of the exciting moment of auctioning off an item of such worth and value to the eager bidders. Some of the most valuable items auctioned at RR Auction include:

  • Legendary guitarist Johnny Ramone’s stage-used Mosrite guitar sold at auction for $71,875.00. Rolling Stone reports that this is one of only nine Mosrites owned by Ramone. The red guitar was owned by the punk rocker for seven years and sports his autograph.

  • A letter written boldly and clearly by American author Edgar Allan Poe, writer of the short stories “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” sold at auction for $76,467.50. The letter bears his signature, which is incredibly rare, and was penned during a particularly prolific time in his life.

  • A White House plinth, a lower slab of a column, sold at auction for $187,500.00. The New York Times reports that the plinth is a lasting decoration from the old White House, preserved after a renovation completed by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1902. The plinth itself is from a redecoration by Presidents James Madison and James Monroe after the landmark was burned by British troops in 1814.

  • John F. Kennedy’s amazing handwritten manuscript announcing his run for president in 1959 sold at auction for $200,000.00.

  • Tony Soprano’s white 2003 Cadillac Escalade sold at auction for $119,776.83, autographed in three places by late actor James Gandolfini, who passed away in 2013. This vehicle appeared on screen multiple times.

  • The highest bid in RR Auction history goes to a privately owned Bulova Chronograph worn on the moon by astronaut Dave Scott on the Apollo 15 mission. This rare artifact sold at auction for a whopping $1.625 million.
